IN REHANA’S WORDS

Learning grows through teamwork.

I believe that effective tutoring is built on a foundation of mutual respect, collaboration, and shared purpose. A good tutor is someone who takes the time to understand both the strengths and weaknesses of their student and works deliberately on both to help the student grow. A good student, in turn, is open to that process and willing to engage. Crucially, the tutor should never position themselves as superior to the student — rather, the two should function as a team, always working toward a common goal that is in the best interest of the learner.

When learning becomes difficult, it is the tutor’s responsibility to identify the challenge, but the solution should be found collaboratively. This means sitting down with the student, discussing why they are feeling discouraged or stuck, and working through the hurdle together.

A good tutoring institution like Online Tutor Connect plays a vital supporting role in making these relationships work. It should carefully assess the qualities and qualifications of both tutors and students to create suitable matches, and provide resources that are engaging and practical. Communication between all parties should be open and transparent at all times, maintained through regular meetings and reports. When conflicts or problems arise between a tutor and student, the institution should first examine the root cause before determining the appropriate course of action.

Parents are equally key role players in this process. Tutors should provide parents with regular reports, and meetings between tutors and parents should be held to discuss the student’s progress. Students themselves should also be encouraged to communicate with their parents about how their lessons are going. The institution should oversee all of these interactions and intervene when necessary to ensure that everyone — tutor, student, parent, and institution — is working together in the learner’s best interest.
