Meet Praise
Chibuike Praise Mbaukwu is a Mathematics and Economics tutor based in Lagos, Nigeria. He holds a First-Class Honours B.Sc. in Economics from Covenant University, completed in 2024, and has more than four years of one-to-one online tutoring experience. His teaching serves learners from upper primary and secondary school through introductory university economics.
Praise uses students’ actual work to locate specific gaps, adapts each lesson to those needs, assigns practice after sessions, and shares written feedback with parents or guardians. He has supported learners across Nigerian, Scottish, British, and American curricula, including exam preparation and advanced economics study.
Covenant University
First-Class Honours Bachelor of Science in Economics (2024). His studies included Mathematical Economics, Calculus for Economists, and Econometrics. His undergraduate research examined technology, human capital, and youth employment in ECOWAS.
Teaching and mentoring
Praise has mentored undergraduate students in economics and quantitative analysis since 2024. His submitted profile reports that six of nine mentees earned A grades on their research projects; individual outcomes vary.
International instruction
Since July 2026, Praise has taught live AP Microeconomics to a Grade 10–12 cohort through the Saudi Aramco Tomooh Program, with assignments, quizzes, and weekly learning analytics. He has also supported a Scottish National 5 student and international learners from the UK, UAE, and Nigeria.
How Praise Can Help
Sessions begin with a close look at the learner’s current work and goals. Praise then builds explanations, guided practice, and feedback around the concepts that need attention.
Mathematics Foundations
Individual tutoring in upper primary and secondary mathematics. Praise builds fluency in algebra, equations, functions, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability, vectors, and secondary-level calculus, tailored to the learner’s course and current understanding.
GCSE, National 5 & WAEC/JAMB Prep
Targeted concept review and practice for learners preparing for Scottish National 5, GCSE Mathematics, and Nigerian WAEC or JAMB examinations. Praise identifies recurring errors and turns them into a focused study plan.
AP & University Economics
Support in AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, introductory university economics, and econometrics, including further econometrics within his stated scope. Lessons connect economic concepts, diagrams, and quantitative reasoning.
SAT & ACT Mathematics
Prepare for the SAT or ACT mathematics sections through topic diagnosis, guided problem solving, and timed practice. Praise does not offer the non-mathematics sections of these exams.
Subjects, approach and availability
Praise tutors mathematics topics such as algebra, indices, logarithms, surds, quadratic and simultaneous equations, functions, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability, vectors, bearing and distance, and secondary calculus. Economics offerings include AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, introductory university economics, and econometrics.
His feedback-first method begins before a session, when he reviews the learner’s work. During lessons, he asks about the sticking point, explains concepts again in another way, and uses video or annotated materials when helpful. Practice assignments and written feedback support learning between meetings.
Sessions are online, primarily on Google Meet, with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Blackboard also available. Praise uses screen sharing and document annotation, and can review work sent by email, WhatsApp, or Google Drive. Instruction, family communication, and written feedback are in English.
Praise is based in West Africa Time (UTC+1). He prefers recurring weekly one-to-one work and two to three days’ notice, while considering short-term or short-notice needs. His stated availability includes weekday evening and overnight hours, Saturday, and substantial Sunday hours; confirm the current schedule when requesting a match.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Patient diagnosis, purposeful practice, positive encouragement.
Praise believes a tutor should bring mastery of the subject, patience, and perseverance. A learner contributes drive, punctuality, attention to detail, and a willingness to work through challenges. When something is difficult, he first identifies where the confusion begins, asks the learner directly, and re-explains the idea with examples or videos when useful.
He places particular value on encouraging language and positive affirmations that support students’ confidence. He sees the institution’s role as matching learners thoughtfully, setting clear learning pathways, and remaining open to a tutor’s suggestions when lesson materials need adjusting.
Praise also sees parents as active partners in both academic and personal development. Periodic check-ins with the learner and tutor help families understand progress and refine goals over time.
Find the learning gap
Review the learner’s actual work and ask where the difficulty begins.
Practice with feedback
Use focused explanations, exercises, and feedback between sessions.
Build a positive partnership
Keep students, families, tutors, and the institution aligned on goals and progress.
