Meet Alexis
Alexis Hudson brings 11 years of combined classroom, virtual teaching, and tutoring experience with a strong foundation in Early Childhood Education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Arkansas State University and also completed an associate-level degree there. She was formerly licensed as a Tennessee Early Childhood Education teacher from 2015 to 2020.
Her professional development includes a 40-hour TEFL certificate, a 120-hour TESOL certificate, and a Tennessee Early Literacy Certificate. Her experience makes her a particularly strong match for young English Language Learners, international families with younger children, and adult learners seeking practical conversational English.
Tutoring Focus
- Early Reading Foundations: phonics, sight words, decoding, and beginning reading fluency.
- Early Math Foundations: number sense, basic operations, geometry, measurement, patterns, and data.
- Elementary ELA: grammar, writing fundamentals, and reading comprehension.
- Elementary Science: early earth science, life science, and general elementary science.
- Conversational English: everyday communication for adult international learners.
- Remedial Support: math and ELA support for older students working below grade level.
Alexis does not currently offer Social Studies, History, advanced high school academics, or college-level coursework. For older learners, her strongest fit is foundational remediation or everyday English support.
Experience & Learning Support
Her five years of formal classroom experience include public school, charter school, and Head Start/preschool settings, including lead-teacher work with children ages 3–6. She also has six years of virtual instruction experience using platforms such as Zoom and ClassIn.
She is familiar with DIBELS, Fountas & Pinnell, TCAP, and RIT-band frameworks for diagnostic and progress-monitoring purposes. She is patient with language barriers, experienced in communicating with non-native English-speaking families, and frequently uses visual aids, demonstrations, and game-like learning activities to maintain engagement.
For Pre-K through Grade 1 learners, parent or guardian presence is welcome and encouraged when helpful for technology support and continuity between sessions.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Adapt, encourage, and bring genuine energy to the learning experience.
Alexis believes a productive tutoring relationship begins with open communication, willingness to accept help, and a positive attitude. On the tutor side, she values adaptability, resilience, and the ability to bring real excitement into each session—especially when schoolwork feels repetitive or frustrating.
When a learner is struggling, her approach is to stay calm, try a different angle, encourage the student, and work through the challenge together rather than allowing frustration to take over. She also values a strong partnership with parents, particularly for younger learners, so that tutor, family, and student remain aligned.
Keep learning engaging
Use age-appropriate energy, games, visuals, and demonstrations to make learning feel active.
Try another angle
When a concept does not click, adjust the explanation instead of repeating the same approach.
Partner with families
Keep communication respectful and practical so parents and tutors can support the learner together.
