Education and teaching experience

Mahadeva holds a Master of Science in Pure Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Mysore, India, along with a Bachelor of Education and an official teaching license for Grades 6–8. He has received a Best Teacher Award (2015). Across 15 years, he has taught mathematics in classrooms, private tutoring, coaching centers and online settings.

Subjects and learning formats

His primary specialization is Grades 6–8 mathematics, including pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, ratios, percentages and introductory statistics. He offers math foundations, remediation, enrichment, homework support, and assignment or project support. Middle school instruction is available individually or in small groups of no more than four students. SAT Math preparation is available for high school juniors in individual sessions; he recommends two 60-minute sessions each week when that pace fits the learner’s goal.

Instructional approach and learner fit

When a student is significantly behind, Mahadeva uses everyday examples and topics that interest the learner to make math feel approachable again. His reported experience includes helping previously struggling students reach B+ level performance and supporting approximately ten learners who improved their SAT Math scores. Individual outcomes depend on the learner and are not guaranteed. He is especially well matched to Grades 6–8 students building foundations, closing gaps or seeking enrichment, and to high school juniors preparing for the SAT Math section.

Language, technology and availability

He teaches and communicates with learners and parents in English. Learners whose first language is not English are welcome when they can follow an English-language lesson. Sessions take place on Zoom, using a digital writing pad and pen, digital whiteboard, screen sharing and reviews of uploaded work. A second laptop and an uninterruptible power supply support continuity. Based in India Standard Time (UTC+5:30), he is available seven days a week, including weekends, with flexibility for international schedules and immediate availability for new engagements. Recurring learning relationships are preferred.

Scope of tutoring

Mahadeva’s focus is Grades 6–8 mathematics and SAT Math preparation for high school juniors. Other standalone high school mathematics and college or graduate mathematics fall outside this profile’s scope. Learners benefit most when they arrive ready to participate and share where they are struggling.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Trust, useful examples and shared effort.

Mahadeva sees learning as a relationship among the tutor, learner, parent and institution. He makes difficult ideas clearer with multiple examples and encourages learners to connect math to their own experiences.

Build mutual trust

A learner needs to believe in the tutor; the tutor responds with reliable guidance and support.

Explain it another way

When an idea is difficult, different examples can help a learner see the same concept from a new angle.

Learn by applying

Knowledge lasts when students use what they learn in their own situations and keep practicing.

I believe that the foundation of effective tutoring is a strong relationship built on mutual trust and understanding between the tutor and the learner. The learner must believe in their tutor, and in return, the tutor must provide proper guidance and support.

When a learner is struggling with a particular topic, a good tutor responds by offering multiple examples to help clarify the concept and make it easier to understand. A good learner, on the other hand, is someone who goes beyond simply absorbing information — they actively apply what they learn to their own experiences, making the knowledge meaningful and lasting.

For a tutoring institution like Online Tutor Connect to be effective, it should ensure that tutors first declare the grade levels and subject areas they are confident teaching, and then match them with suitable learners based on that expertise. Once matched, the institution should provide proper guidance and support to both tutors and learners, encouraging tutors to bring all of their skills and talents to the relationship in order to ensure the learner is satisfied.

When it comes to parents, I believe a supportive parent communicates frequently with the tutor to stay informed about their child’s progress. At home, parents play an important role by looking after their child after class hours and encouraging them to complete any assigned homework. If a child is struggling to complete their work, the parent should speak directly with the tutor and, if necessary, ask them to adjust their teaching method to better suit the learner’s needs. When tutors, learners, parents, and the institution all work together in this way, the learner has the best possible chance to grow and succeed.
